If you've been sleeping on the trading card market lately, consider this your wake-up call. Victor Wembanyama's name just got etched into hobby history, Pokémon's Mega Evolution era is in full swing, and the One Piece TCG continues to prove it's not going anywhere. Let's break it all down.
🏀 Wemby Cards: Buy, Hold, or Sell?
By now you've probably heard the news ... a 2023-24 Panini Prizm Black 1/1, graded PSA 10, just sold for $5.11 million in a private sale through Fanatics Collect. That makes it the most expensive non-autographed NBA card ever sold, and it puts Wembanyama in a club of only eight athletes in history to have a card eclipse the $5 million mark.
And get this ... just over a year ago, the previous Wemby record was $860,100. That's nearly a 6x jump in value in a single year.
So what's driving it? A few things are all converging at once:
On-court dominance. Wemby became the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year in NBA history, and the Spurs made noise in the Western Conference Finals.
Scarcity. There are no licensed Wembanyama autographed rookie cards - he signed an exclusive deal with Fanatics, who weren't the NBA's licensee during his rookie year. That makes his Panini rookie cards forever finite.
Topps is in the mix now. His first Topps Superfractor (from 2025-26 Topps Chrome, with logos!) sold for $488,000 at Goldin ...and that estimate has already climbed to nearly $775,000 since his playoff run.
Should you buy Wemby cards right now?
If you're chasing 1/1s and high-end slabs, you may have missed the floor .. but honestly, the floor may keep rising as long as the Spurs stay in the playoff picture. For budget collectors, base Prizm rookies and Topps Now cards are still accessible. Entry-level Wemby material is still out there at prices regular humans can afford, and if he wins a ring? Those cards are going to look very different in a few years.
Bottom line: If you own high-grade Wemby cards right now, there's a real argument to hold through the Finals and beyond. If you're looking to enter, lower-end rookies still make sense as a long play.
🃏 Pokémon TCG: Chaos Rising Is Here, and So Is the Nostalgia Wave
The Mega Evolution era of Pokémon TCG is officially in full gear. The latest English set, Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising, dropped May 22, 2026, bringing with it Mega Greninja ex, Mega Dragalge ex, Mega Floette ex, and Mega Pyroar ex ... all TCG-exclusive Mega Evolutions tied into the Pokémon Legends: Z-A theme.
Here's where it gets interesting for collectors and flippers:
What's hot right now:
Mega Greninja ex is leading the competitive scene hard. Its Mortal Shuriken ability lets you snipe opposing Pokémon for 60 damage, and the Ninja Spinner attack synergizes beautifully for big plays. Tournament demand is keeping SIRs involving Greninja elevated.
Vintage Greninja BREAK (BREAKpoint, 2016) ... here's the under-the-radar move: nostalgia buyers hunting Greninja's earlier cards pushed this decade-old card to around $25 for Near Mint copies. That's striking for something that spent years as an afterthought.
What's cooling:
Mega Dragalge ex SIR opened above $100 and has drifted back toward the $75 range. Still a beautiful card with long-term potential (especially if Mega Dragalge ever appears in the games), but the post-launch cooldown is real right now.
What's coming:
Mega Evolution: Pitch Black drops July 17, 2026, headlined by Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex. This one has serious chase card potential ... Dark-type nostalgia runs deep, and Darkrai always attracts attention.
First Partner Illustration Collection Series 2 (Johto, Unova, Galar starters) releases June 19, 2026.
The 30th Anniversary Celebration Set is still on the horizon for September ... all-foil packs, iconic reprints, and a worldwide simultaneous release. Start budgeting for that one now.
☠️ One Piece TCG: The Surge Has Stabilized - But It's Not Done
If you watched the One Piece TCG market over the last several months, you saw a massive wave hit with releases like Carrying on His Will and the Heroines Edition extra booster. That surge has leveled off a bit ... but don't mistake stability for weakness.
What's worth knowing right now:
Manga Art Rares from (Romance Dawn) remain the gold standard. Shanks Manga Art Rare is holding above $300 raw, with PSA 10 copies well above $500. Luffy and Zoro from the same set are in the $150–$400 range depending on condition. First-set manga rares from the game that launched it all are only going to get harder to find in high grades.
The Magazine Luffy promo has been one of the most-traded One Piece cards of 2026 .. over 3,000 transactions recorded, and even with reprints, demand keeps outpacing supply.
Nika Luffy (Gear 5 / Special Art) cards remain among the most sought-after in the entire game. Character popularity in One Piece moves markets more dramatically than in almost any other TCG. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Ace cards consistently outperform equally rare cards featuring secondary characters.
Sealed product remains strong. Premium booster boxes, especially limited runs and EB (Extra Booster) series, have historically appreciated well. The key risk: Bandai increasing print runs could soften that. For now, the release cadence has stayed disciplined.
Upcoming: Keep an eye out for the Live Action Edition cards dropping in November 2026 ...and notably, these are brand-new cards, not reprints. Baroque Works theme plus the main crew with Chopper. These could be strong for collectors who follow the Netflix side of things.
